Wireless Card for Windows XP


  1. Download the Client Utility from the Help Desk Toolkit website
  2. UnZip the files
  3. Insert the Wireless card, and turn on the computer.
  4. The computer will ask if you want to install the software automatically.
  5. Click on the install button.
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Include this location in a search.
  8. Click Browse and point to WinXP from within the downloaded files
  9. The driver should now be installed. Click Finish to close the utility.
  10. In the system tray there is a new icon that looks like a computer with a red screen (red is not associated, green means associated).
  11. Double click the new icon to open up the client utility. If it says you need a firmware update, do the following.
    1. From the unzipped files, Click on install. This will install the update utility.
    2. Double click the winupdate icon on the desktop. On the bottom left is a Download button; click it.
    3. From the unzipped files in firmware\1.3.4\OEMrelease and then click open.
    4. Next to the Download button is the Update! button; click it. During this time, do not turn off, or unplug the wireless card.
    5. Click the Update button again, and it should tell you when it is done.
    6. Double click the new icon in the system tray to open the configuration utility.
  12. Click Start|Control Panel, then Network Connections.
  13. Right Click the Local Area connection with the Netgear card, and go to Properties.
  14. Go to the Wireless Network tab, and click Add.
  15. Under SSID type the SSID given to you.
  16. Uncheck the box next to this key is provided for me automatically.
  17. Under Network Key,enter the WEP key given to you.
  18. Under Confirm network key, retype the WEP key given to you.
  19. Click Ok, and then Ok to exit out of everything.
  20. The icon in the system tray should now go from red to green. (if it doesn't appear after a minute, restart the computer.)
