Thunderbird 1.0.7 Installation

Install Thunderbird
  • Click on the Toolkit Web Browsers button
  • Click on the Install Thunderbird button

    • Thunderbird-install-00
  • The Thunderbird installer will begin.
Thunderbird-install-01 (29K)
  • The Thunderbird Setup - Welcome window will open.

  • Click Next.

Thunderbird-install-02 (16K)
  • The Thunderbird Setup - Software License Agreement window will open.

  • Select Accept to accept the license agreement.

  • Click Next.

Thunderbird-install-03 (15K)
  • The Thunderbird Setup - Setup Type window will open.

  • You may select Standard, or Custom setup.

    • The Help Desk recommends that you choose the default settings for this window.

  • Click Next.

Thunderbird-install-04 (14K)
  • The Thunderbird Setup - Summary window will appear.

  • Click Next to continue.

Thunderbird-install-05 (10K)
  • The Thunderbird Setup - Installing window will open.

  • The Install Progress bar will run from left to right.

Thunderbird-install-06 (28K)
  • The Thunderbird Setup - Install Complete window will open.

  • Leaving the Launch Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.7 now option checked is recommended.

  • Click Finish to complete the installation.

Running Thunderbird for the first time.

  • The first time you run Thunderbird it will open the Account Wizard.

  • Select Email account.

  • Click Next to continue.

  • The Thunderbird Setup - Identity window will open.

  • Enter the name that you would like to appear on your email in the Your Name: field.
    • for example: if you would like your email address to look like this
      John Smith <smitjohn@isu.edu>
      then enter John Smith

  • Enter your email address in the Email Address: field.

    • for example: smitjohn@isu.edu

  • Click Next to continue.

  • The Thunderbird Setup - Server Information window will open.

  • Select IMAP.

  • Enter mail.isu.edu in the Incoming Server: field.

  • Enter smtp.isu.edu in the Outgoing Server: field.
    • Note: if you are not using ISU to connect to the Internet, this should probably be the outgoing server for your Internet Service Provider(ISP)
      For example:
      • mail.yourisp.com
      • smtp.yourisp.com

  • Click Next to continue.

  • The Thunderbird Setup - User Names window will open.

  • Enter your ISU username in the Incoming User Name: field.

  • Enter your username for the ISP in the previous step in the Outgoing User Name: field.

  • Click Next to continue.

  • The Thunderbird Setup - Account Name window will open.

  • Enter ISU Email Account in the Account Name: field.

  • Click Next to continue.

  • The Thunderbird Setup - Congradulations! window will open.

  • Click Next to continue.

thunder-account-06 (10K)
  • The Mail Server Password Required window will open.

  • At the Help Desk we recommend not to us the Use Password Manager to remember this password.

  • Enter your ISU Email password in the password field.

  • Click OK to continue.

  • Your ISU email is now configured to work in Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.7
